Part of #23

What to build

A WiX v4 source with a <Package>, its properties and features, SummaryInformation, Launch and MajorUpgrade builds into an installer package. The language is chosen by the <Wix> namespace, and mixing v3 and v4 sources in one build is refused. The end-to-end harness gains v4 fixtures, each with a WiX v3 twin in place of wixl.

Acceptance criteria

  • Package takes Name, Manufacturer, Version, Language, UpgradeCode, ProductCode, Codepage (by number or web name), Compressed, InstallerVersion, Scope and UpgradeStrategy, with v4's defaults.
  • Package/@Id, the dual-purpose scopes and access modifiers are refused with the reason; a package left expecting the default major upgrade is warned.
  • SummaryInformation, Launch, MajorUpgrade, Property, Feature with Level children, and the …Ref elements work as documented.
  • compare.sh builds a v4 fixture and its twin in tests/e2e/fixtures/twins, compares their tables apart from the fixture's .twin-differences, and installs the v4 package under Wine. A v4 tracer fixture passes for x86, x64 and arm64.
  • Seam-1 tests cover each attribute, default and refusal.

Done in 323c9f9, green in CI run 19 (test and e2e).

  • A source's namespace picks its language, and a build reads one language.
  • A WiX v4 <Package> builds with v4's defaults: compressed, Windows Installer 5.0, per-machine, UTF-8 by number or web name, a generated product code, and Language 0 (inferred, ADR-0007).
  • <SummaryInformation>, <Launch>, <Feature> with <Level>, and <MajorUpgrade> with IgnoreLanguage work as documented.
  • Refused with the reason: Package/@Id, the dual-purpose scopes and access modifiers. A package expecting WiX's default major upgrade gets a warning.
  • compare.sh compares a v4 fixture with zixl's build of its v3 twin in fixtures/twins. tracer4 passes for x86, x64 and arm64.
